The Kirby translation's fun. I read that last spring. It's an older translation so check the library; retains the traditional, rather than phonetic, spellings, and has that rythme to it... Kalevala has the same beat as Longfellow's Hiawatha, which is actually very similar, except with indians rather than Finnish gods and heroes. I like Kalevala better...

that was a silly, space wasting post.Of course it was, my rating from the enviro-whacko questionnaire proves that I care nothing about the way I waste resources and endanger the lives of every other living thing on the planet. Why, I'm probably personally responsible for .001 degree of global warming!

I don't have any furniture from IKEA. Is it very comfortable? How affordable is it? Does its manufacture and shipping to retail outlets waste a large portion of the world's natural resources?
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
He came back a couple of hours ago, said he was withdrawing as an active forum member and the Freepathons, but will lurk. I started reading the thread, but didn't go very far. We've lost Registered, now BADJOE. It's sad to see how conservatives eat their young.
Without the Hobbit Hole, I'd probably be gone too...(but no opus for me...I'll just wander off to the Grey Havens...)
To: Corin Stormhands
Well, yeah, but since we have such big families, eating the young cuts down on the number of planets we need.

The Kirby translation's fun.I'll look for it, thanks!
The movie The Day the Earth Froze was a Scandinavian production based on some of the legends from the Kalevalala. It was neat to watch, because although it was filmed in Scandinavia the terrain looks just like where I grew up in Upper Michigan.
The movie is one of the better episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (in my opinion.)

The Koivenen in my home town was a doctorAbout half of all Finnish names end with the -nen suffix. I believe that it means 'person who' does something. I have that kind of Finnish name myself.

I don't have any furniture from IKEA. Is it very comfortable? How affordable is it? It's cheap (in more ways than one). We actually got what we have second hand (even cheaper) when we first moved in the house, we wouldn't choose to buy furniture from there.
I think it's okay for the "just starting outs" or for dorm rooms, etc. Let's put it this way, if you can't fly Southwest, you probably shouldn't be sitting in chairs made by IKEA.

Without the Hobbit Hole, I'd probably be gone too...(but no opus for me...I'll just wander off to the Grey Havens...)Me, too.
Oops, there I go wasting bandwidth again... mine! mine! all mine!
To: JenB
Jonathan Swift would be proud of you...
To: Corin Stormhands
I am not too sympathetic with either one of these guys. Neither one was banned. One made a major violation of forum rules, got a one week suspension, and is off pouting. BADJOE was an insider, tried to purge some personal enemies, failed, and is off sulking. Rather like Achilles at Troy, it seems to me.

Oops, there I go wasting bandwidth again... So, if Isildur picked up the bandwidth, would we see it get smaller?
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
I am not too sympathetic with either one of these guys. Well, you know more of their stories than I do. But I just have to think back at the contributions those two have made over the last few years. I think as conservatives, we really have bigger battles to fight and it's stuff like this that causes us to lose.
To: Corin Stormhands
if you can't fly Southwest, you probably shouldn't be sitting in chairs made by IKEA.LOL! Well, let me put it this way... I could fly Southwest, but it would be an expensive proposition!
Only one third of the way there! Must... post... faster!
To: Corin Stormhands
Should we invite Isildur to post, then?

I believe that it means 'person who' does something. Could it be like the "-son" in Swedish names? Literally, "son of ..."

Do with it what you will. Remember what Gandalf said to Frodo...

Should we invite Isildur to post, then? Well if you do, you'll have to invite Elrond since he's to blame for the whole mess anyway...

Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
