I have been to one SF convention, and read about many others. They are like most large conventions, except that there are not many general sessions. If you don't want to see a bunch of folks dressed up like LOTR characters, don't go to the costume ball.

I get shunned when I brought up stuff like this over on "those" threads. But, my family and I love holidays of all types. I'm the kind to put up the orange lights at Halloween (I have several strings of green "icicle" lights), etc.

We used to go to a much more uptight church. Our first year there they had a "Fall Harvest Party." I don't have a problem with that, but most of them just turn into Halloween Parties in drag.

But they advertised that children could come as their favorite Bible or Disney character. (it was a few years back).

My top costume suggestion list:

Rahab the Harlot
The Witch of Endor
The Mad Man of the Gadarenes
Cruella De Vil...

If I hooked up a Slip N Slide here today, I'd be fined $25.00 (first offense, it doubles after that...)

The Lake Chesdin water level is a prime example of why mandatory water restrictions go into effect today in Chesterfield County.
(DON LONG)

This is just south of where I live.

A fairly long and technical review of the DVD can be found here.

I agree with 2JM about beiong concerned about meeting people over the internet, look at the CGEB story, as well as the recent Commensense problem, but I would think that there would be safety in numbers.

My thought is that's why we don't "open this up" to everyone. We have the regulars here and may lose some and gain quite a few more before then.

But I think we go to a more secure location. Maybe set up a Yahoo Entmoot group. And we'd only pass on the info via freepmail once we got to know someone. Then we can talk about details.

That's especially important if we end up at someone's house.

I don't even water my little mailbox planting anymore. So far, the oregano is hanging in there.

If you move the Hole in the night, leave a trail of M&Ms (preferably the crispy ones!)

And for heaven's sake! Don't move while I'm gone!

My county officially starts water restrictions today. They made the decision about three weeks ago, but wanted to make sure everyone was notified by mail before they started imposing fines.

What I can't figure out is that the City of Richmond is waiting and two other surrounding counties are waiting to see what the City is going to do. What the heck are they waiting for?

It's not getting any better here anytime soon. They should've done this in June because they knew what was happening.

Some "conservatives" argue that the gubmint has no business restricting water. Well, if people would be responsible, I'd agree. But my neighbors on either side last night were doing the last minute drench of their lawns. There's just no excuse for that when wells are already drying up.

Hehehe. A couple of weeks ago the city of Durham got caugth violating their own water restrictions. :)

I don't water lawns ever. Right now even the weeds are dried up. Oh well. At least I've cut down on verge trimming. I think I've cut grass a total of three times this season.

Speaking of watering...well sort of...

I'm taking all my notes for my books to the beach so I can review the plot lines. This morning in the shower, I figured out a major plot line/character connection.

I don't have many moments of inspiration like that, but this was one of those "ooo, that's good," moments.

Don't pour out anything that you drink...cold coffee, old iced tea or even melted ice in the glass! Pour it in with your mailbox plants. It won't kill them (if they are at room temp).

Don't use milk-based drinks of course, and I doubt I'd use a fruit juice to do this (maybe, though)...but any water-based drink would do...soda waters or Kool-aids. You might get ants a little...but I even doubt that.

I usually pour old coffee and tea in the compost pile. Other water-based drinks go to water house plants or the potted plants I have on the deck.

LOL! GMTA! I used to live in Austin, Texas and we had a really bad drought there one year...our water table fell really low and we were on restrictions. This is how we kept our hanging potted plants alive!

Good morning! I'm still trying to wake up, myself...my brother and sister came over last night and we stayed up until about midnight watching the movie, or most of it.

Then my brother left and my sister and I stayed up for quite a while analyzing people we know to determine if any of 'em are elves, hobbits, dwarves, etc. Strange, I know, but something we end up doing occasionally. We even know a whole family that I think are secretly Beornings. (If my brother jrherreid is lurking, he probably knows EXACTLY who I'm talking about.)

I'm still noticing details in the movie! Had another "DUH!" moment last night when I FINALLY noticed that at the end of the movie, when Aragorn suddenly backs away from Frodo and draws his sword to fight the orcs, it's because he notices Sting glowing. I know...should have caught that on the first or second time through instead of the seventh!

hehehehe - So that Aragorn scene makes more sense now then! Good morning! have some coffee!

If you don't finish it, pour it in a plant. Seems to be the advice of the day.
