Thank you both for the vegetable lesson! I distinctly remember my grandfather saying the word Rutabaga... but other than it being a fun word, I have never seen the funny little roots.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh, you're welcome. I guess everyone is just naturally fascinated with rutabagas. . .
;-)
Someday I'll take some pictures of our garden...it's done in the square foot method. We have 8 beds that are about 5x10 feet big each.

Hey Hair...what kinda range do you think you could get with a rutabaga outta yer potato cannon?
I always figured hobbitses would be fond of rutabaga's turnips, and lettuces...not to mention good cheese and bread...
To: g'nad
Don't forget taters!
In case you hadn't noticed, food is one of my favorite hobbies. :)

Is a rutabaga denser than a potato? - if it is, perhaps we could get 125 yards out of it!
That reminds me a bit of a gal my brother dated for awhile... a divorced mom of three... she was/had been very low income. She watched as my brother brought down a couple full bags of red potatos for a day of shooting the potato cannon on the beach. Good way to entertain her kids, especially the young boy. (watching of course, they were too little to fire it)
When we started firing off the potatos, she said "But you are wasting food!
Wow, yeah we are... um... want a potato? - What do you say?

In case you hadn't noticed, food is one of my favorite hobbies. :) How do you guys always manage to talk so much about food on my diet days?...Or is it just that we always talk about food here...
(14 lbs. since June 22, in spite of the weekend binge...)
And I have a new juice bottle...

My mom always gardened... she grew peas and beans and lettuce and berries... She would make freezer jam out of our berries.
For a couple years after she died, the garden sat unplanted, though dad always rototilled it, to keep the grass and weeds from becoming hard turf.
Then I started planting garden, but only a few things to feel like I was producing something when I didn't have a job... I planted the whole thing in corn one year.
I think next year, if the inspiration holds, I shall plant some corn for me and carrots for the ponies!

Hey, you remember that big rant I had a few days ago about people brushing their kids off on the church so they can do what they want? Well, I did it! LOL Actually, my mom's church is having VBS and she wanted them to come. I needed to bug bomb our enclosed porch and the shop (spider infestation), and so I let them go. I don't want them around when I'm shooting off poison and they were thrilled to get to go. We use the porch as a playroom and the toys are going to be contaminated now so I have to take them out and wash them after the bomb is finished working in 2 hours.
I don't know if they'll need to go back tomorrow...it's all this week. I guess if they have a good time, it's ok with me. But on the other hand, 2 VBS's in one summer seems a bit excessive...what do you think?
To: Corin Stormhands
Congratulations!

How do you guys always manage to talk so much about food on my diet days?... But...but...but rutabagas and turnips are good for you!
To: 2Jedismom
But on the other hand, 2 VBS's in one summer seems a bit excessive...what do you think? I dunno. Bible study (I know it's not in "depth" at VBS) is certainly not a bad thing. When we first moved back to Richmond, we moved at the beginning of the summer. We put Corin, Jr. (who was five at the time) in about three VBS programs just to meet people and keep him from getting bored while we settled in the house.
If you have any critters as pets, make sure they're away from the bug bomb as well...
To: 2Jedismom
In this case it's not so bad since it was done for health reasons.
To: 2Jedismom
what do you think? If they want to go, I guess it doesn't hurt to get churched up again!
HEHEHEE - the evil smeagol side of me wants to say "Think for yourself you stupid cow!" just once!
Kidding!
To: Overtaxed
Yes, but if they go back tomorrow...what'll be my excuse? LOL
To: HairOfTheDog
Bad Smeagol! Do we need Admin Mod. again? :)
To: HairOfTheDog
ROFLOL!!
To: 2Jedismom
Yes, but if they go back tomorrow...what'll be my excuse? Tell them it's a object lesson in finishing what you start.
To: 2Jedismom
tee hee hee!
To: Corin Stormhands; HairOfTheDog
finishing what you start.Good one!
Hair, you're never going to let me live down one of my less than finer moments, are you?!! LOL
To: 2Jedismom
I think it was a fine moment! - You have made me laugh my butt off twice now with one quote!! Not bad at all!
