Yeah, I don't mean stuff like that. I do brush them off on my folks now and then, just so Steve and I can do something...for sure every December 22nd or there abouts...that's our anniversary and they clear that date just to watch the boys. We saw LOTR for the FIRST TIME this last December.
I'm talking about people who are habitually dumping their kids on the church for one reason or another...constantly. They would rather volunteer to do ANYTHING rather than deal with their kid. You know the type I mean.
I'm just saying that we rarely do it...we don't feel the need or we just don't want to. And there are people who definitely use the church to watch their kids periodically for selfish reasons...heck, my church even has a date night for parents where you pay $5 for all your kids to stay at the church for a few hours while the folks go out. I don't have a problem with that, although we've never taken them up on it.
I'm talking about people who are using the church to raise their kids. I knew of those types when I was a kid. You could pick out the ones that their parents did that to them. Just miserable wretches. They just wanted to go home. And it seemed to balm the conscience of the parent because they were doing "church work". To me, it's no different than dropping them off at a one room last-minute daycare center while you go shopping in the mall.
You know how I am about maintaining parental authority with your children. I don't know, but it seems to me that the Lord wouldn't approve of a parent who abdicates that authority to anyone (for an extended period of time, mind you). Not even the church.
BibChr, is there scripture to back this up? There should be! ;-) This is more on the discussion in post #13537.

BibChr, is there scripture to back this up? There should be! ;-)Or maybe this is just the gospel according to Kim?

And don't you all think it's nice that The Hobbit Hole is on the FR front page??

Time for bed here, so have a good night, everyone!

And don't you all think it's nice that The Hobbit Hole is on the FR front page?? Well, so it is! - Neato!
Everyone else - Look under "Dailies" on the left margin... FreeRepublic.com
Using the Hobbit Hole as our main Topic doesn't work quite right because it is classified as a daily... I think it was supposed to mean only this thread and it's successors... but OH WELL, it does make it easy to find all the LoTR threads... And no one seems to mind, yet!
Good Evening everyone!

I'm talking about people who are using the church to raise their kids. No, we don't do that either (although we have been known to slip out for coffee during Sunday School...).

Goodnight all.

Hello all! I just got in, long day, but I learned more JavaScript and earned a little cash. Hopefully I'll be able to write a little more tomorrow, and Wednesday evening I have off entirely. Glad everyone's doing well!

And don't you all think it's nice that The Hobbit Hole is on the FR front page??Great!!
It is also good to see that there is now a help/guidelines section. Documentation at last, with a listing of most of the major Freeper sins, including thread jumping, and excessive flaming, so we can direct the offenders to the rules they are violating.

No, we don't do that either (although we have been known to slip out for coffee during Sunday School...).ROFLOL!! Oh, I have been so tempted! It would be so easy to do, because if anyone saw us leaving, they would assume we were going to worship, since we have worship twice. While we're in Sunday school, there is one service, and while we're in worship, there is another session of Sunday school.

Hi Jen! Just got out of the tub. Glad to hear your day went ok. I love hearing your updates and look forward to hearing them from my boys someday!

Good Morning!
What are you trying to do, get me on a soapbox too? :)
Don't get me started on parents who leave their kids at the toy store while they do grocery shopping, use public libraries for after school care, or otherwise expect strangers to look after their children.

Don't get me started on parents who . . . otherwise expect strangers to look after their children.Heck, OT, I've been reading enough stuff about John Walker Lindh's parents on the News/Activism Forum threads already!!

(although we have been known to slip out for coffee during Sunday School...). Oooooo...yer gonna smoke a turd in hell fer that....
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
LOL! I wasn't even thinking about him. I was thinking about those latchkey kids and about those news stories where 6, 7, and 8 year olds are hanging around pools after hours and.... Where are the parents when all this stuff is happening?
To: Corin Stormhands
The new phone books here! The new phone books here! I AM somebody!!! LOL! Man, I was thinkin' of the same line when I saw you beat me to it...I've used that phrase several times in public...always good for a few stares...
To: 2Jedismom
Mornin' 2JM...OK, take a deeeeep breath, hold it.......let it out sloooooooowly........feel better? :^)
How are "theboyz" today?
To: Overtaxed
How about parents who leave their little ones with older siblings? It's just wrong to have to explain that no, I am
not their mother, I'm 19 and thanks for thinking I'm 30, since this one is twelve.... ok, so it doesn't place a burden on other people, and they are being watched, but it's hard being one of three teenages who will be seen in public with younger sibs...
Morning all. I'm off to work, slept in a little late since my brother doesn't have school today. They might fire me - oh wait, I'm not being paid yet, and when I do it's by the hour, they don't have much for me to do today, and my dad runs much of the company... no worries, then!

While we're in Sunday school, there is one service, and while we're in worship, there is another session of Sunday school. Well, we actually don't do that anymore. At the church we're now attending the choir sings in both services, so we don't do Sunday School at all. But at the church we used to attend the adult Sunday School classes were called "Teaching Fellowship One" and "Teaching Fellowship Two." The local Einstein Brothers Bagel Bakery was commonly known as "Teaching Fellowship Three."
