Yes I did see your message at the chat room... Going to see the trailer today?
To: ecurbh
The theaters nearest to me cut back to 1 show/day too at 3:30. I was planning to go to the 1:30 show in "the big city" but might not make it. (Took the car in for some work this morning and it's turning into an Andy Griffith episode :) ).

Yes, I think many of us would would have looked a LOT rougher than our Aragorn does after living in the wilds. I think he wears it well!
To: HairOfTheDog
Iam not sure, but I do know I will see it this weekend. (The Beatles doing LOTR, Whoopie Goldberg, maybe this is a good weekend for the world to end, except that we have to hold off until December, 2003).

Oh, my three favorite LotR humans, all in one spot! Thank you. I've been off looking for new computer wallpaper - now I have a picture of an Elf-boat coming to Valinor. Nice restful picture. And I'm counting down the hours... three more hours and I'll be there!

I've spent considerable time in the wild, and I know I looked pretty darn rough on exiting. Very hard to keep clean, shaved, etc. Especially if the weather is rough, and most of LOTR takes place during the winter.

I agree, I think he is looking pretty darned good! Even considering. ;~D

....and he does clean up so very well....

Well...I was curious so I checked up on the theaters in the area. Most of the theaters that HAD been showing LOTR are no longer showing it today.
I have to wonder, with what happened with the Cinerama (Rings fans persuaded them to bring it back next week) if the fans had known this and had jumped on their theaters in an organized fashion we would have had a lot more theaters showing the movie and the preview than we do.
I'm getting the impression that New Line has been dropping the ball on things like this--first the debacle with the Oscars, now the failure of their marketing department to get the new release into the theaters. They'd better get their act together by the time the next movie comes out...

I am leaving in a few minutes - When are you leaving? What time are you going to see the show?
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm leaving in about a half-hour, the show starts at 12:35.
I am trying not to get too excited...and failing, of course. ;)
I am so bummed I'm going to miss chat tonight! :(
To: Penny1
My show starts at 12:35 too... so we will be watching at the same time :D - too bad about chat... I am going to try to get everyone to post comments here so that everyone can see them! - even if they arent able to be here at the same time!

Good idea!
Have a wonderful time!!!! :)

I will have a good time I am sure! I am off!
Coming soon to a Hobbit Thread near you...
Tidings of the The TTT Trailer!

I want my car back! Might not get to see it until tomorrow :(

I'm getting the impression that New Line has been dropping the ball on things like this--Would somebody please explain to me their failure to put in even a title slide at the end of FOTR: To be continued in The Two Towers - December 2002? Why leave a lot of newbies dangling?

Wooohooo!! I guess I'm the first one to report. First of all, it seemed waaay to short, it felt like 30 seconds. The individual shots seemed to just fly by. I hope we have something downloadable soon, so I can absorb it all.
Here are the highlights I can remember:
- Wormtongue. He is absolutely creepy and evil!
- Gandalf the White. This will be a spine-tingler! A quick clip of his "unveiling" in Fangorn is shown, as is his appearance at Helm's Deep. His whole demeanor is subtly changed - a renewed inner strength seems to have been captured well.
- Eowyn. There is an interesting clip of her sparring with Aragorn, then standing on a porch in Edoras. Edoras is an absolutely
- Theoden. Not as old as I had imagined him being, but with a great nobility. I don't think we see him before he is freed from the grip of Wormtongue, so I would be interested to see the change.
- Treebeard. Pippen is shown sitting against a tree trunk, which then blinks it eyes! Just the barest hint here of what is to come.
- Gollum. He is shown creeping towards the "thieving hobbitses." The motion capture seems to be very realistic, and should make for some great interaction with Frodo and Sam.

Gasping for breath still - it was awesome! There were at least two dozen viewers at the theatre and you could have heard a pin drop as the last shot of our heroes faded. Then, the trailer appeared on screen - our first indication was the different music. After 10 times, you know what the music is supposed to sound like in the credits, and that was not it. Instead, we got shots of Hobbits, Elves, Men, a dwarf, Orcs, and Treebeard. It was so incredible I still haven't got the proper words.
Things I noticed:
Eowyn is beautiful, and that disputed picture is of her! I'm thinking of dyeing my hair blond.
Helm's Deep. It looks like, well, Helm's Deep.
Dead Marshes - better than I'd imagined since I hadn't envisioned the flame spurts.
Faramir - I'll forgive him for being blond because he was so cute!
Everyone catch Treebeard? Not much of a shot, but so cool! Also it looks like Arwen will be reforging Narsil and bringing it out to Aragorn. The shots of the White Rider were great, too. And Theoden is going to be perfect. I could not believe he was chanting that poem and it fit so beautifully!
When we were done, the whole theatre cheered. It was like opening night all over again.

Well, I am still having trouble breathing after that! IMO, that is one of the most beautiful trailers I have ever seen--the music was stirring, the shots we were treated to were incredible.
Aragorn is Da Man! Whoo-boy...
*ahem*
Now that I've got that out of my system, the introduction of Gandalf The White literally took my breath away. His way of speaking has completely changed along with how he looks. I am really looking forward to seeing the full transformation.
Eowyn was beautiful and tragic both at the same time. I still have some issues with her and Aragorn sparring, but that scene was excellent--almost enough to win me over. ;) I had a little trouble figuring out who the new characters were. I think I could tell when Faramir was onscreen, but if Eomer was, I missed him completely, and it took me a while to figure out that was Theoden.
My one complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough of any of the hobbits. We barely got 3 brief moments with Frodo and Sam, one shot of Merry and Pippin and one of just Pippin with Treebeard. I would have been more annoyed with that if I hadn't already figured out that that would be the case.
The way it was put together was fabulous--very well done, even down to the length of time the black screen at the end of FOTR was in place to build the anticipation to the breaking point.
The attendance was pretty good for a 12:30 matinee, the theater it was in was a very nice one, so that was a nice surprise. We didn't cheer or clap after the trailer was over, but I think it was because everyone was still a little awed by it.
I am sure I will have more coherent thoughts later, and after I get a chance to see it again.... ;)
