I do too! This particular weed that we have now is very soft...and looks like a type of grass, very soft and leafy. It just forms a carpet and it's overwhelming to pull, although very easy to pull up.

The sandburs were incredible. Hard to pull up and then half the time you got a handful of burs when you tried. Barbed little devils you had to pull from your fingers forcefully. But the pulling worked because there are hardly any left in our yard, we can walk in comfort barefooted and we are the only people in the neighborhood that can. We also fertilize using a stuff called Milorganite and the stickers seem to hate it. We have to be ever diligent though.

Steve has pulled the soft weeds all around the perimeter of our yard and the bermuda forms so thick a mat that they don't come back as easily and the bermuda is dark green. The weeds are light green and easy to spot.

Did you stop in Raleigh for the $1.25 show of LOTR? :)

Raleigh is out of our way for our trip to Greensboro. We avoid I-85 and I-40 as much as possible...

If I wasn't back in the office today, I'd say it's my lucky day. But I did just sort of pop in right on time. Gotta run now and actually see what was left for me while I was out. Back later...

Don't blame you! I haven't checked out Greensboro for dollar theaters...Raleigh is closer.

That's one of the things I liked about 29 Palms...lawn maintenance made easy...rake you sand twice a month, and you're good to go...and keep the diazanon handy for the occaisional fire ant mound...

Only had about 2-3 snowfalls in the past two years...none of 'em stuck for more than a few days...

This is a picture of a sand burr. The spikes are microscopically barbed. They hurt worse coming out than going in. We literally pulled up 4-5 huge (moving type) boxes full of these. We couldn't use gloves because you had to be able to feel the roots to make sure you got it all. I used a butter knife to loosen them, then just prayed and reached in and pulled. Each stick I got left a little lump that stayed for several weeks. It was agony! After several weeks of pulling, my fingers were a lumpy mess!

Then of course your neighbors let their sand burrs go to seed and the seeds land in your yard.

Yes. Or their kids track them into our yard. Like I say, we have to be diligent. We most commonly see them re-appear around the edges for this reason, I imagine. They also seem to use care not to blow the seeds into the yard when they mow. Still, my husband has also pulled the burrs in their yard, using a long handled cultivator three feet from their fence line.

What a horrid looking thing that is!

We have an ouchy kind of sticker weed here too, but I don't know what it is called.

I used to be quite lawn obsessed at my last place... constant watering and mowing... Had to have perfect diagonal lawnmower tracks in the lawn at my prior place. I enjoyed working on it quite a bit.

I don't have a lawn so much now... I sortof stopped caring about it when I moved here and had more other work to do. My yard for the dogs is about a 3/4 of an acre, and it is entirely treed with firs, so it is too shady for good grass. It is kindof a combination of grass, moss and weeds that I just keep mowed by horse power and tidy up with the trimmer.

Yeah, we don't care so much about the weeds in the back yard (except for stickers...every time one of the boys finds a sticker they both get a Whopper candy!)

Our yard, even with this soft light green weed, is one of the nicest in the neighborhood. I think it must be because we merely mow and edge it. No kidding. Most people in the neighborhood just hack theirs down when it gets really tall.

Going outside with the boys for a while, before it gets too hot. We put netting over our tomatoe plants to keep the birds away...I want to check that out.

Tell me about it... Last winter I tracked a nice 14 pt buck that hangs around the housing area...I tracked him for two days,he never got more than 200 yards from a building. Even when rutting does were around, he wouldn't follow them out of the "safe-zone"...(bow hunting is allowed on Mainside, but not within 400 yds of housing)...They have deer here that live for years and never venture out of "sanctuary"...
