Hmm. I'm probably on the other side of the fence from you there, but am not totally convinced of it, just think it (evolution) seems probable. My mom was very religious and managed, in her mind, to reconcile belief in both sides at once.
To: JenB
Since we are just stating our position, I currently believe the world has not only evolved before, but it is evolving still. I don't see that as running counter to God, because I believe Genesis is a parable told to an unscientific and simple people, and should not be read as Science.

I think I can agree with your mother... see above.

"I currently believe the world has not only evolved before, but it is evolving still "
How do you feel about the possibility of "parallel universes, evolving parallel to ours?" I think them likely.
To: HairOfTheDog; Sam Cree
I don't know. I guess once I postulate God, anything else is believable. He could have made the world out of paper-mache ten minutes ago and it would be reasonable. Evolutionary "science" still has more than enough holes - logical and evidential - that I don't feel anti-intellectual by embracing Biblical creationism.
Actually, it's a little bit of a "where does it stop" deal - if I stop believing the Genesis account, how long until I find the idea of God unbelievable? Some people don't have this problem, but I struggle with agnosticism. So I overreact the other way.
As for parallel universes; well, it's a nifty idea, and no reason that I see why God couldn't have it that way - except this: that every universe is either free or fallen, and that in every fallen universe, Jesus' sacrifice must have been made. It's hard enough to take it happening once, but happening over and over again... do you understand what I mean?

Hmm... I have never had a place in my brain to file parallel universes... I don't understand the need for them. Why do you want them to be true?
To: htur_75
you should ask him about his picturesThank you, I will! I do enjoy nature photos very much.
To: JenB
I have rectified it by assuming that God told them then what they could understand about the origin of the universe, and they wrote it down as best they could with the understanding they had at the time.
He may explain it differently today if he sent someone new, may go into more detail or tell it in a different parable... of course whoever he sent to try and explain it would undoubtedly be discounted.
That is what bothers me about strict Biblical Christianity. It assumes that everything we would ever need to know was covered then, in that time, in another language that was largely oral, in a land far away. That if it isn't in the Bible, it cannot be true.
There is a lot that is true that is not in there. Perhaps God told them what they needed to know at the time, and left us smart enough to fill in the rest later. At least that is the take I have become comfortable with in my heart. We will not solve it to everyone's satisfaction on this thread, or in our lifetime!
To: HairOfTheDog
That if it isn't in the Bible, it cannot be true. That is because us strict Biblical Christians believe that the Bible isn't a mere book written by mere men, but the very Word of God transcribed by men. God didn't need those people He spoke to to understand Him. He just told them what to write.
My father-in-law did not believe that the Earth was made in 7 days although it says so right there in God's Word. Yet he did believe that the little piece of bread he took into his mouth at Communion turned into the actual body of Christ, although it says nothing about that in the Word! He would pick and choose which miracles he wanted to believe, setting himself up as being smart enough to do so. I really personally don't believe he believed anything, only giving lip service to it.
I believe in God. That's the leap. I believe He sent His Son (who was also fully God), who died on the cross as final payment for all my sin and that this fully human Son of God actually died and came back to life 3 days later. Now that really is a leap! If I can believe that, God creating the world 7 days is not that big of a leap! LOL
God created Adam as a fully grown man and I believe he created the Earth as a fully grown Earth that has changed and adapted since that time.

I can't stand the religous threads, really, I can't. Well, it took me longer to learn that one, but I agree with you. My name is Corin and I'm a Freepaholic. It's been three weeks since my last post on the religious threads.

And yours is another side of it... I dunno... I have believed all kinds of things as I have "evolved"... and I don't think I am ready to etch my interpretation in stone yet :~D

Good evening Corin!

"And now, for something completely different..."
Are we making a run? Or is the 00 not so precious anymore?
To: HairOfTheDog
Yes, I frequently quote the Bible in one post and Monty Python in the next. See why I'm a square peg? ;-)

Evening all. Just checking in before I head off to bed.
Quiet week here working on the house. Not as much as I wanted to get done, but I'm working at a steady pace.
Quiet 4th. We opted to be very unpatriotic and not see fireworks. It hit 101 here yesterday and our 2 year old has asthma. We just weren't up to taking him out in the heat and then fighting the crowds. Did the next best thing and took my oldest son, his cousin and a friend to see Men in Black II. We did have some sparklers earlier, but living in suburbia, that's all we're willing to try. (plus I didn't want HOTD to blame me for upsetting the ponies).
MIBII is fun and worth seeing if you liked the first one.
BUT, the best part is that we saw the TT trailer on the big screen. Woo Hoo! I can't wait!!!
G'nite all.
To: Corin Stormhands
Oh wait! I can't leave yet!!!
To: Corin Stormhands
I was wondering what you were thinking!

You'll appreciate this 2JM. My wife is teaching American Lit this fall in a home school academy. She got an e-mail this week from a parent who asked if her suggested reading list had been approved for "Christian" families...
