I am at risk for skin cancer. I get a check up each year with a dermatologist.
Me too. I am a fair skinned green eyed, freckled redhead of Nordic and English heritage, with many small moles, who experienced many blistering sunburns before I knew better.
As a teen I thought I could get one of those beautiful tans I saw in TV commercials if I slathered myself in baby oil and coco butter and laid out in the sun for hours. All I got was blisters and once a sunburn so painful I couldn't walk and missed a week of school.
I'm like the poster child for being at risk for skin cancer and get at skin survey done yearly with a dermatologist.
A skin survey isn't painful but is a bit intrusive. The dermatologist will not only look at your skin in areas where there was sun exposure, but your scalp, mouth, between your toes, look at your nails and toenails, in your a$$ crack and hoo hoo, under your breasts, pretty much everywhere on your body because a melanoma can manifest in areas not exposed to the sun.
As do I. Had a small spot removed from my neck two years ago. My dermatologist sees me once year in November. My older brother goes in every six months as he’s had a handful of spots removed from his face.
