When did I ever say that it was honest and fair and unbiased. It is nothing of the kind. And even if a jury and judge pass a death sentence, it is a fact that it will take a lifetime for them to carry it out in any one case. In the case of mass high treason, it will not happen at all.

Did they hang Robert E. Lee and Jeff Davis? No. And they committed treason, alright. They took up arms against the United States, and made common cause with its enemies. All of that! And did not hang. At most, those who participated in the rebellion were disenfranchised until 1876, and some forfeited property.
