Protests gone out of control are not the same thing as terroris, and usually happen on weekends, but, the French surely needed to spread out events to have enough personnel to cover them. They were already shorthanded. The soccer games likely had the biggest footprint, so for that (move them to the likely “slower” Monday) and other (including $$ for the NFL) reasons, it probably made more sense to make the NFL game the one that didn’t “move”.
“Protests gone out of control are not the same thing as terroris...”
A protest is defined as an act of challenging something—ranging from an organized public demonstration to a quiet, individual refusal.
A terrorist riot is defined as a premeditated, politically or ideologically motivated violence or threats directed against civilians, property, or government institutions to induce fear, coerce a population, or influence public policy. You’re right. But they don’t have a protest. They have a terrorist riot.
“...violent fringe groups targeted public buildings, looted luxury boutiques and supermarkets and attacked police vehicles and officers.”
So they have violence through burning, looting and physical attacks. By their definitions above, which one do you have?
“...it probably made more sense to make the NFL game the one that didn’t “move”.
Luckily, the game was played with huge security working with the US state department and the French authorities. Certain outlets that normally are set up near the stadiums they play were shut down and a pop up event for both teams was decided closed down.
The game was intentionally kept at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, located about 6 to 8 kilometers north of central Paris, which isolated the venue away from the primary riot and protest zones. The NFL worked hour-by-hour alongside the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Embassy, Parisian police, and French national authorities. The French government deployed up to 70,000 police officers nationwide over the weekend to secure cities and control the rioting, a portion of which heavily reinforced transit routes and checkpoints leading to the stadium. Extra ticket and bag checks were established. Everyone entering the stadium area was required to pass through mobile metal detectors. And enhanced security protocols and dedicated escorts were utilized to transport players and staff directly from their hotels to the stadium. And it was noted by the French travel agency Les Frenchies Travel to include pictures that a large part of the audience watching were Americans. Sometimes it best to have just blind luck.
