Nidal Hasan is a savage Islamic terrorist who killed 13 innocent US service members at Fort Hood in 2009. He deserves the death penalty, nothing less.
But the idea of broadcasting his execution publicly — livestreaming it — is beyond grotesque.
America is supposed to be a model nation, with the highest values, a shining light that leads the world into a civilized future.
The spectacle of a publicized, glamorized execution sends us in the opposite direction.
It signals a type of gloating and bravado unbecoming a proud, moral country.
America is not a medieval caliphate. Our leaders aren’t supposed to act like jihadists.
Will Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who proposed the hideous extravaganza, next suggest filming captured, blindfolded Islamists on their knees, while US soldiers behead them?
Hasan’s death is meant to achieve justice for the horrific evil he perpetrated, not serve as a source of entertainment or pleasure for masses.

There’s always converts being added to the cause, I’m afraid. And it can be for any number of reasons. A public execution is just one of dozens, maybe hundreds of reasons.
That said, that’s not a reason to not hold a public execution. But if we really want a beneficial cause-effect situation, public executions should be considered for most Federal capital murder offenses.

Given how things have been going, we should already have the capabilities to substitute the execution on British channels like the BBC, ITN, etc. Carry out the execution during their “telly” hours like 8:00 PM GMT. I’m sure the number of NATIVE British citizens who would appreciate this would be very high.
Might as well do the same for France’s and Germany’s TV networks.
Just having people who commit heinous crimes just "disappear" into the legal system removes any clear sign of the dispensation of justice and removes our individual responsibility for it.
A public execution restores both a clear sign of the dispensation of justice and a reminder of our collective responsibility in administering it.
As far as it making him a "martyr", why should I care? His sympathizers are like rabid animals who will have to be hunted down and killed anyway. The presumption that we should show restraint to "persuade" them to behave better is laughable.
Make it Pay-Per-view so liberals can be spared and the money can be used to benefit the families of the many victims.
Christ's crucifixion would have lost a lot of it's meaning in private. Bearing witness to injustice and underserved suffering in His case, to justice and deserved suffering in this one. The crucified Christ is displayed in Catholic churches for a reason.

Public execution is exactly what this POS deserves at best. I’d have him drawn and quartered live on TV by someone in a Crusader Uniform.
