One of my duties in HR was to teach the godforsaken HIPAA training.

So what happens now?

The catch-22 is that terminating the employee confirms the story.

Can they terminate the employee with an NDA that prevents the person from saying they were terminated? Would that be a condition of avoiding prosecution?

Or is the person free to say they were terminated without giving an explanation as to why? What would such a person be free to say when they apply for a job somewhere else and has to put their employment history on the application? I worked at Lindner Center of Hope in Cincinnati, Ohio from xxx to October, 2026?

I don’t even know the rules any more, since I retired 20 years ago. (HIPAA was relatively new when I was forced to teach it to city ees in 2002.) I’m sure much has changed in 20 years. (I wonder if it actually made a positive difference in people’s lives.)
