My brother-in-law, who is a diehard conservative, retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He despised Reagan for cutting back on full Colonels. Which he felt he had earned and probably did. He’s now retired and the retirement pay is much less.
We don’t care too much about the retirement pay. We all knew it would be just enough to pay a mortgage, but not enough to live on. It’s the medical insurance that counts!
