Colleges are about to start running out of students

There’s about to be fewer feet sticking to frat floors and hands slapping the bag. US colleges are facing an enrollment cliff after the population of Americans aged 18 peaked last year.

Undergraduate enrollment is projected to decline by 13% in the next 15 years, according to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. Meanwhile, many schools are already in a pickle: Families are increasingly bargain hunting for the most generous financial aid as they doubt the value of a higher education. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has restricted international student visas, denting enrollment in the process.

There seems to some progress being made in curtailing junk programs. From a Brave search:

“The Department of Education is implementing strict accountability measures to eliminate low-value academic programs, primarily through the Gainful Employment rule and the new Student Tuition and Transparency System (STATS). Under these regulations, programs whose graduates fail to outearn high school diploma holders (for undergraduates) or bachelor’s degree holders (for graduates) in two out of three consecutive years lose eligibility for federal student loans and Pell Grants.”

Is it necessary for 30% of adults to have a 4 year degree?

Here is the reason why:
College in place of employer candidate aptitude ?

Overview of Griggs v. Duke Power Co.

Griggs v. Duke Power Co. is a landmark Supreme Court case decided in 1971 that addressed employment discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The case arose from discriminatory hiring practices at Duke Power Company, which had historically restricted Black employees to lower-paying positions.

Key Facts
Case Background
Filed: 1970
Decision Date: March 8, 1971
Supreme Court Citation: 401 U.S. 424

Discriminatory Practices

Duke Power required a high school diploma or specific scores on intelligence tests for jobs outside the Labor department.
These requirements disproportionately affected Black employees, who were often unable to meet these criteria despite being qualified for the positions.

Supreme Court Ruling

Legal Findings

The Court ruled unanimously that employment tests with a disparate impact on Black workers are illegal unless they are reasonably related to job performance.
The ruling emphasized that Title VII prohibits not only overt discrimination but also practices that, while neutral in form, are discriminatory in effect.
Implications
The decision established the disparate impact framework, allowing employees to challenge employment practices that disproportionately disadvantage minority groups.

Employers must demonstrate that any tests or requirements used in hiring or promotion are valid measures of job performance.

Conclusion

Griggs v. Duke Power Co. significantly reshaped employment law by reinforcing protections against discrimination and ensuring that employment practices are fair and equitable. This case remains a critical reference point in discussions about workplace equality and civil rights

“It's all about The Orange and Blue! We are so back, baby!”

I am mildly pleased.

The reported $40 million team payroll is dismaying. Coach Pell was banished for providing ball caps and a few ham sandwiches. And I think one booster sold a player a used pickup truck for a couple of hundred dollars below blue book value. It was the biggest scandal you can imagine; we lost our first SEC Championship because of it.

Recently a high-paid star college quarterback was called into the office and told by the coach, “You are being demoted.”

“You are sending me to second team?” the player asked.

“No, you are being sent to the NFL,” the coach said.

Colleges priced themselves out of the market.

Decreased enrollment could mean a decrease in certain things that shouldn’t be taught anyway. The price of a “higher education” is sometimes (in my observation) something that is just too expensive & not at all necessary.

It SHOULD be at least 50%, if the government would stop funding useless degrees for women

There are no useless degrees. That's not the problem at all.

You send 50%+ of kids to a university system designed for the top 5%, break the system itself because you cannot educate the 50th percentile as you can the 95th, they simply cannot do it, and you sell them all on a fantasy of “you’re an elite now, you deserve a top 10%, probably a top 1% life” that is obviously mathematically impossible.

Overproduction of self-styled elites overstuffed with self importance and crushed under debt is how you stir up an intellectual vanguard and there has never been one so large and so ill informed. never.

They are not even familiar with history or what’s been going on. they have become a set of the blind leading the blind.

It's a win. This will help close down vile anti-American indoctrination centers - centers that rip off American parents with their high prices, low standards and hatred toward traditional Americans.

I recently explained to a young college graduate a joke referencing medieval chain mail armor, and got hit with “Huh?”

Good post.

When you add the female thumb on the scale things start to get weird in a hurry.

The vast majority of the female graduates go on to “service” functions and do not actually produce any physical stuff.

That is one reason we are buried under a huge pile of “talk talk talk” and bureaucracy accomplishing nothing.
