Qlaundra Hood sentenced to 30 days in jail after pleading guilty Tuesday in Mecklenburg County Superior Court to running a red light, striking a beloved Charlotte runner, and leaving him dying in the street.

What does that mean? Were these all misdemeanors she was allowed to plead down to? If so, that's FAR more concerning than the light sentence. It means the next judge gets to say, "well, she's never been convicted of a SERIOUS crime."

On Tuesday, Hood pleaded guilty to the reduced charges: felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death, plus misdemeanor death by vehicle. The involuntary manslaughter charge did not survive the plea.

OK - should have read further. She should absolutely have been forced to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter, but that requires a minimum of a few years. But at least she has felony on her RAP.
