during a quiet sun there are less clouds so it’s hotter.

This seems counter intuitive.

The primary green house gas is water vapor.

Also, the coldest days in my experience are days with clear blue skies.

You obviously saw my follow up where I corrected my incorrect memory on the model.

But clouds are tricky. And there effect is still debated. During the day they clearly make it cooler. At night they clearly trap heat. So cloud free days are hotter and cloud free nights are cooler. What is the overall effect, and especially in a dynamic system where what happens over the day changes and what happens over the night changes and how it all averages out - lots of debate and a very incomplete data set to work it all out.
