We had acquaintances, seemingly wealthy and fun people. Every morning early, he would go for a bike run, she would have coffee ready. He didn’t come back and she got worried, she looked out the large picture window and he had shot himself in the head. They owned several businesses, massive debt which she had signed or co-signed for. As her realtor, it became clear she was in deep financial trouble that he escaped through suicide. Their beautiful home was now a stigmatized property, which sold for far less than asking. She was on the hook for hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Her life was destroyed and never the same. The most selfish thing imaginable.
