They will definitely have to turn this off to do the Standard Safety Crash Tests. The car would refuse to do the head-on crash test, and try to get out of the way of the side and rear-end crash tests.

How DO you test this stuff? Put the Tesla in a room full of cats and tell it to drive from A to B?

The car would refuse to do the head-on crash test, and try to get out of the way of the side and rear-end crash tests. They evidently can turn this off for crash tests since the Model 3 was recently awarded the top spot for crash safety by the NTSA.
