I was just talking to a friend about this the other day. In 1961 we moved to Seattle from Virginia. I was still young about 6 or 7.
I had my own radio in my own downstairs bedroom, and I used to listen to the Country & Western station locally on the AM dial.
Brit invasion? Okay... but on the west coast up in the GNW it was country, loggers, blue collar, Rainier Beer... the teeny girls were sloppy for the lads... but the menfolk were listening to honkey talk music. If they were my group, they were probably listening TJ Brass, Ventures, Surf Music and the far-reaching broadcast radio signals of Country... on the AM dial.
