Archbiship James Ussher famously fixed the date of the creation of the earth as October 24, 4004 BC at 9:00 A--and I assume he meant Pacific Daylight Time. So on October 24, 1972, at 9:00 AM PDT, students in the geology department at Occidental College invaded my geology class, which was just getting underway, to hold a surprise party to celebrate the creation of the earth. A TV cameraman accompanied the students, and we got on the news that evening.
September 12 will be the beginning of the year 5787 from the creation of the world by the Jewish calendar. So Archbishop Ussher seems to have been off in his calculations by a few hundred years.
Funny, I was taking a geology class in college that same year where I first learned of Bishop Usher’s time scale.
