In 1967, Steinem revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she had worked full time from 1958 until 1962 at the Independent Research Service, which was largely financed by the CIA.

The CIA front organization in the movie Three Days of the Condor was called the "American Literary Historical Society."

Scene I remember had the targeted researcher Robert Redford barely escaping CIA killers as he lay down and held the stranger Faye Dunnaway close to him and warned her to be completely quiet. “I promise I’m not going to take advantage of you, I just need you to be quiet to help me so two men coming in don’t kill both of us.”
Women in the audience and Dunnaway must have thought “Gee, that’s a shame.”
