Not really something a new driver really needs to know.

They still make cars and SUVs with manual transmissions. There's been a slight increase as well from those trying to avoid CVT transmissions.

And since the unconstitutional California Air Research Board (CARB) mileage standards have been tossed at the Federal level, car manufacturers can move away from gas-electric hybrid cars and shift-to-a-new-gear-every-100-rpm automatic transmissions.

It would be easy enough to make a manual tranmission simulator you could connect your computer or smart phone. Add in some feedback, and a new driver could have it down pat in a long weekend.

You could build a training module into today's cars as well, more than just the shift up / shift down notification on the dash.
