Trump controls the news cycle—both here at home and abroad by spotlighting his attention on something, someone, or somewhere like a human laser pointer, and the Trump Derangement Syndrome zombies, and the hack journalists reliably feeding them red meat, go on the attack.
And by that, I mean EVERY TIME. This is the norm, not the exception.
That said, if you don't believe there's any rhyme or reason to his often times boastful, bombastic, or critical things he asserts, then it's safe to say you're either not paying attention or you'd test positive for TDS... perhaps even both.
