ONE RUMOR WAS AN EARTHQUAKE
The seismic event wasn't an earthquake, but rather part of the mountain and glacier falling some 8K feet to the valley below. There was a second landslide that occurred about 3 hours later that regressed as a 4+ earthquake. The theory is the first landslide undercut hillside where the second landslide occurred.
