**We/they like his policies, but think he says a lot of stupid, cringe-worthy stuff. That said, we’d all still vote for him again, and still support most of his policies.**
The left hates him with a passion and it does have a negative effect on his popularity. Trump brings that hatred to a head while engaging in the theory of diminishing returns. They foam at the mouth so bad that people start tuning them out. That’s his plan. He’s having a good time while his enemies want him dead, making it easier to choose. sides.
Seems to me that plan has a flaw. Although that's if you consider it an actual "plan". I just consider it a lack of verbal discipline. But either way, the impact is the same.
Sure, most people tune out the most rabid of his critics. But what happens with independents is that while they tune out the most rabid of his critics, they lump together Trump with those critics and also tune out Trump himself. Because he's the leader of the party who does not tolerate anyone who doesn't defend him to the last, that also tarnishes every other Republican. That leaves the door wide open for any Democrat who isn't a frothing at the mouth lunatic.
That is not a winning strategy with the midterms coming up.
