Who knows what happened in this particular incident. But out of curiosity I looked a few things up.

Switzerland has very permissive gun laws. But Switzerland does not allow carry in public without a permit. Such permits are not easy to come by. Your job must require it.

Aargau Is 5.5% Muslim. Yes, I found that surprising. And not in a good way.

As I suspected, Aargau is up north near the border with Germany. IIRC, a few years ago the Swiss had been doing the lax border checks thing due to their participation in the Schengen Area - "migrants" were allowed to cross from Germany and continue on to either France or Italy. Big surprise, they found that some of those people weren't making the second border crossing. The Swiss tightened things up at that point, but it's likely that some problems linger in that 5.5%.
