Most new robo vacuums use LIDAR. The WiFi connection allows the robot to communicate with the app. They are two different things. LIDAR prevents it from running over the dog. The WiFi allows it to take a picture of the dog in the way and sends it to your phone.
So it would be able to avoid running over a hairball maybe? We never got a Roomba because that might be a problem.
