I suggest you look at how the feminists managed to get the government to cave as it did. They and their supporters campaigned for the changes.

Men had the truth on their side. On this issue, YOU have the truth on your side. The problem is, there was no counter activism. You can blame it on having to hold down jobs, or agree with me that men in general had other priorities, but whatever the reason, the fact remains that the feminists fought for their POV and men didn't.
