(The Center Square) – The National Rifle Association launched its first national bus tour Thursday as the group tries to get gun owners to vote in the 2026 midterm elections.

The NRA Institute for Legislative Action plans to make 63 stops in 13 states before the tour ends on Election Day, Nov. 3.

The group calls it the 2026 NRA’s Gun Bus Battleground Tour.

The bus left the NRA’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday. Its first public stop will take place Sept. 3 in Dillon, Montana.

The NRA said it wants gun owners to support candidates who back Second Amendment rights.

“Gun owners don’t need another polished ad interrupting their favorite show,” NRA-ILA Executive Director John Commerford said in a statement. “They need real conversations about what’s at stake for the Second Amendment.”

The bus will travel through Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The NRA is attempting a comeback after ridding themselves of Wayne LaPierre 2 years ago. He "resigned".

Good on them!

Good, I am glad to see that they are finally putting my membership dues to good use. They need to spend extra time in Georgia. The Atlanta area may be lost, but turnout in the rest of the state could overcome Atlanta.

don’t need another polished ad ... “They need real conversations

It will be interesting to see if this “tour” can turn 2A activists into door knockers who get the voters to the polls. It is those one-on-one conversations where the activist goes to the voter. Waiting for the voter to come to the activist ... or the polling place .... is not working in 2026. Primary turnout was abysmal.

Now to Nov it is all about TURNOUT. Issues may motivate activists to go knock on doors. But the issues are not motivating many on our side to TURNOUT and vote.

From the list of States, it looks more to me like they’re hustling money than trying to win the mid-terms.

It’s unfortunate but the NRA may never fully recover from the mismanagement and excesses of Wayne LaPierre.

Wayne LaPierre wasn't acting alone. His handlers are still at large and up to their "controlled opposition" scam.

I wouldn’t trust anything the nra says, now days, even if they claim they have nothing to do with lapierre anymore.

Recently, the nra has been trying take credit and fool people into thinking they were part of the NFA judgement, making it sound like their nra members would be covered. however, the nra does not appear as one of the covered entities on the final judgement.

If anything, all they may have did was fund one of the groups involved in the suit.

And, as far as I can tell, nothing had been done to part of lapierres earlier contracts, which said if lapierre retired from his position in the nra, he would still be retained as a consultant and do appearances, etc. for the nra... at his last compensation level.

https://www.businessinsider.com/nra-ceo-wayne-lapierre-net-worth-spending-2019-8#while-lapierres-exact-net-worth-is-unknown-one-estimate-puts-it-at-10-million-in-2017-his-compensation-was-more-than-14-million-2

According to an investigation by The New Yorker, state records show that LaPierre’s contract “provides for consulting services and personal appearances upon the end of his employment, at an annual rate that starts at his currently contracted final base salary and is later reduced.” As in: The exec would continue to make his salary, or close to it, after retirement.
