An ultra-exclusive Hamptons yacht club catering to the wealthy and well-connected was forced to suspend its members-only restaurant service for multiple days after several of its kitchen staff were booted from the country over visa issues, The Post has learned.
The swanky oceanfront Devon Yacht Club in Amagansett — which reportedly charges around $100,000 in initiation fees — canceled its Wednesday night dinner service after it lost its foreign cooks, according to a letter sent to members the same day.
“The H2B visa approval for our cooks is still not resolved,” the letter obtained by The Post stated, referring to special visas that allow US employers to fill seasonal or temporary positions with foreign nationals.
“It seems that an oversight either by the agent or attorney responsible for submitting our petition or perhaps by the US Immigration Office itself has resulted in a situation where our H2B kitchen staff must leave the country immediately and return to their home countries for at least 60 days before their visas can be renewed,” the notice continued.
The high-society haven has experienced choppy waters in recent months as members battle over plans for the club’s future — and whether that includes a full demolition and multimillion-dollar reconstruction or renovations, New York Magazine reported.
The inner turmoil has leaked into the public view as several members have been expelled, dozens of lawsuits have been filed and members have aired their grievances in online forums and at town meetings.
In a lawsuit filed on March 9, expelled members from the private club alleged they were booted from the elite spot for rocking the boat by opposing a controversial $35 million redevelopment project and claimed one board member threatened to “gouge out” an opponent’s eyes.

A fancy place like that, and they are so cheap that they won’t hire the locals.
Why do we need to import cooks? H2B visas are for: “Temporary Need: Jobs must be tied to a seasonal need, peak load, intermittent need, or a one-time occurrence.”
Cooks for a country club do not meet these requirements. They are not ‘seasonal’, a ‘peak load’, ‘intermittent’ or a ‘one time occurrence’.
These visas should never have been approved.

Clients always throw the "agent or attorney" under the bus when there is trouble ahead. Name the names.
It would have helped if they had hired an "agent or attorney" in the first place.

Another of the myriad reasons to get rid of H1B and H2B visas. Importing third world trash to run your kitchen is a death wish. I’ve seen it first hand how filthy these people are.
And this, in a nutshell, is why the elites like slave labor imported from abroad.
It keeps their costs down, while the massive burden (medicaid, welfare, education) of these marginal immigrants and their children is passed on to the average taxpayer.
Hardly an exclusive club. Cheap asses when it comes to payroll.
This is the Hamptons. That yacht club will be a ghost town when the weather changes.
I know, I can't sleep at nights thinking about a billionaires' yacht club having to hire local staff.
OMG...has anyone checked on them to make sure they’re not starving? I would hate to think they could cook their own meals, or pack a PB&J on their boats for lunch.
Next task for ICE is to ensure H2B visa’s are not being used for jobs outside the intended use. Make them hire Americans for the jobs and adjust the prices for their master’s accordingly.
Easy solution. The fancy yacht club should assign kitchen duty to the members on a rotating basis.

A lot of these places are second homes and summer rentals. There are no locals.
Yeah, it still doesn't mean they can't offer competitive salaries for U.S. citizens to work there.
