“Initially it was to harm Iran militarily and financially and make it nearly impossible to build nukes for a while.”
Since he claimed that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been obliterated a year ago, it would be hard to make that claim again without on-the-ground verification.
And we’re not going to get it.
Full stop. Whether talking about Iran and/or Trump, here's an uncomfortable reality about building nuclear/atomic weapons. It doesn't take long for an established nation to do that with the right materials. For context, the Manhattan Project made atom bombs in just 3 years. That was making them from scratch, and with 1940s tech and know-how. That was also when the U.S. population was 130 million (not much more than Iran today with 90 million).
Given those above, someone like Iran today already having worked on building nukes can restart the program and be completed much sooner than 3 years like it took the U.S. So any talk from either Trump or Trump haters about whether or not one bombing attack did or should have been able to forever stop Iran's ability to build nukes is a bunch of hogwash. We have to always be on them, especially given their repeated threats to destroy the great satan.
