I see so many estate sales, garage sales, storage unit auctions, etc.... one could literally decorate and equip an entire house with very good stuff, very cheaply.
If one were poor, there is no reason to buy anything new.
I have a son-in-law who frequents yard sales, etc., and gets vintage stuff dirt cheap or free. He does very well scoring on good stuff. He’s asked people that are demolishing homes or remodeling them if he can take the materials that will be tossed out, and they let him do it. He’s stripped homes of vintage oak flooring, windows, cabinets etc. One property he pulled materials out of, he found vintage Indian head pennies and other coins. He likes collecting 1940’s and 1950’s era toys, which his daughters enjoy. My daughter (his wife) never knows what her husband will find and surprise her.
