Doesn’t sound all the ‘independent’ to me, if they need congress to ‘fix the problem’ (i.e. bail them out), but is supposedly and ‘independent agency’.
It’s never made sense to me. They have been operating at a loss, billions every quarter, for decades.
So how is it exactly the claim is made they don’t get any funds from the government? Show your work. They did say “no tax dollars”; so maybe they have something else going on. How do they make payroll & pension? They are required to prefund their retirement program, but removing that obligation would not move the needle.
