Treatment of first wife Carol McCain:
While John McCain was imprisoned in Vietnam (1967-1973), his wife Carol was in a near-fatal car accident on Christmas Eve 1969.
She underwent 23 operations, was left four inches shorter, disfigured, and with permanent mobility challenges. She had been a former model.
Ross Perot—who paid Carol’s medical bills—later said: “After he came home, he walked with a limp, she walked with a limp.
So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona [Cindy Hensley] and the rest is history.”
McCain returned in 1973 to find his wife disabled. By the late 1970s, he was pursuing an extramarital affair with Cindy Hensley, an heiress 18 years his junior whose family owned a large beer distributorship. He divorced Carol in 1980 and married Cindy five weeks later.
Hensley money is how he bought his seat in the Senate.

This group drafted the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (S. 744). The bill passed the Senate 68–32 but was never taken up by the House and died at the end of the 113th Congress.
