1906- median income $200-$300 house $3,000 > 10 times. In many places, much, much more. No social security, no disability, no unions. College was essentially only for the rich.
A Stanley Flyer, a world class performance car, was $3,700, equivalent to ten a year’s average salary. Today a new Corvette starts at less than 18 months average salary.
In 1906 you could look forward to WWI, the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, WWII, and the Korean War. The next generation could look forward to Vietnam, high inflation, gas shortages, 18% loan rates, AIDS, increasing drug use and crime, riots and multiple assassinations.
Today? It’s a very different picture, my Friend. Today’s youth are set to benefit from the greatest transfer of wealth in human history. About $36 trillion dollars.
