Introduces instability and open to manipulation. The Senate was designed to be the deliberative assembly composed of longer serving members and shielded from day-to-day popular opinion. Better just return the election of senators to the state legislatures, thus preventing them from become independent power bases.

The Senate was designed to represent the States (specifically the State legislative bodies), not the people. The people are represented (hah!) by the House of Representatives. Part of the Senate's job was to ensure that Fedzilla didn't seize those powers Constitutionally reserved to the States. The 17th Amendment destroyed this protection.

Better just return the election of senators to the state legislatures

YES! A Senator who votes to usurp State powers must answer to the Legislature against which he offended.
