“Unless you favor this approach and are prepared to spend 20 years on it in the case of Iraq. It’s totally pointless in my view”

I think that the war as conducted has set up the possibility of the regime’s enemies to take down the IRCG. Whether enough has been done to facilitate this or not, only time will tell. In the meantime, Keeping the regime from reconstituting and gaining more power is the task at hand. The downside is the IRGC can make the poorer nations suffer mightily and Trump must do what he can to resolve those issues; fertilizer, energy and financial assistance, etc. These efforts will, of course, make the public angry. But it’s a whole lot better than invading a country as big as several US states and spending twenty years, thousands of American lives and billions of dollars more than the alternative. Does the American public have the patience? Probably not. The public act like children with little notice of the overall problem.

Spot on. The dumbed down and indoctrinated, clueless public are all about instant gratification... despite the fact that that usually results in disaster, later on (the end results of them voting for commies and free stuff).
