Lepanto came after 900 years of inconsistent, divided response to Islam....2/3rds of Christendom was and remain under Islam’s pointy boot, we lost Iberia for 700 years, they got within 120 miles of Paris, had looted Constantinople and Rome, and was in the process of laying siege to Vienna once, with #2 still to come as another damn close run thing.
The Crusades, disorganized and half-hearted....then we quit.
