The actual problem is that people who approve drugs for the FDA then go on to be employees of the companies whose drugs they approved. That has to stop.
I worked for a consortium who had a better product than the military was already buying from ITT. But the career path for that agency was, become a colonel at the agency, approve purchases from ITT, then go on to retire and work for ITT. Our better product was ignored.
This is how government works.
