Winona police are investigating after all eight of the city’s Flock cameras were cut down and stolen.
It’s the latest city in the state to experience Flock camera theft or vandalism; cameras have been reported stolen or damaged in Duluth, Plymouth, Faribault, Edina and Anoka County.
Winona police say officers initiated an investigation on Saturday night when law enforcement realized there had been no recent camera activity.
Officers searched the locations of the Flock cameras and found the camera poles cut down near the base and discarded in the weeds, according to Winona police. The cameras were removed.

Quite a few cities are having second thoughts and removing the cameras alerady installed.
You make a good point. And so do others here who have privacy concerns. It’s a tough call in many ways.
So how to balance things out? Maybe require a warrant for the cops to actually view the camera footage?
I will say this. If my local police department wanted to install a camera on the telephone pole in front of my house, I’d say go for it.
These cameras are retaining location and surveillance data without a warrant.
They are, de facto, a Fourth Amendment violation.
All 8 of Winona’s Flock cameras stolen as cities across the state continue to see theft, vandalism

Yeah, so that image once on the internet will never come down and you and everybody can watch it in perpetuity. Relive your hell every day. Police used to solve crimes by leg work and yet with all these cameras unsolved crime rate still rises and still not a deterrent. Police have become lazy.
Illegal aliens doing the stealing?.
Funny, cause every crime camera I see on tv the image is fuzzy and very grainy or too dark and you can’t tell squat.
That is logical but then I think of Trillions spent on the War against Poverty and it is still going full speed with poor peoiple aplenty.
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
Ben Franklin
You are ignorantly giving up liberty for an illusion. A criminal planning of doing such horrible things can easily hide himself from such surveillance, unless of course you want EVERYHTING under Big Brothers watchful eye.
There are literally face masks so close to looking real you cannot see the difference form 10 feet away, steel a car from a private residence (private so no camera’s now) wear a mask, steal a kid, off to the woods. Hardly an unreasonable scenario for someone intent on such evil.
That’s because that made enormous amounts of money for the Dems. It was a massive financial success.

Flock cameras are dangerous if not used carefully.
“Funny how it didn’t become a problem until the Left started to claim that they were being used to help catch illegal aliens”
Yep, I’ve been screaming about Flocks for at least 2 years now, after my kid discovered one 4 years ago. Not even a response on FR!!! Everyone was more interested in driving their kids to public school, I guess. But once the Left, and then their Media, which still is THE MEDIA, started screaming...things changed.
I have always been against those cameras from the first day I learned about them.
“I will never understand honest people who hate cameras. criminals I get.”
You’ll also never understand why something that had been PERFECTLY LEGAL, such as attending a Trump rally in DC and following the instructions from police can turn into a 5 years in DC Central.
An armed society is a polite and safe society. Stop handing out SSRI’s and justifying that behavior by saying they are ill and bring back nuthouses and put criminals in jail or to death like it is supposedly to work. Criminals have no fear of being caught and being shot/killed while they perform their crimes. If you are a nut or a violent criminal, then you shouldn’t be on the street to begin with not given couch therapy and allowed to walk among us.
Turning America into a prison recreation yard, one camera at a time.
I’m on the right and an not a fan of the ever increasing surveillance in this country. That is not my idea of freedom. If my vehicle is an extension of my home for 2A purposes then I should also enjoy my privacy in my vehicle just as I would my own home.
you’ve got to be kidding, right?
What liberty am I giving up?????
I get bitterly attacked for being a libertarian on this board sometimes. People think I am an anarchist. Far from it.
I think you can do whatever the hell you want as long as you aren’t harming or stealing from someone.
When I go out in public, someone could shove their phone/camera in my face and take a picture. I’d be annoyed, but that’s their freedom, because I don’t expect any “right” to privacy in PUBLIC!
I’ll repeat that word here for emphasis.
PUBLIC
