Buzzfeed ^

Whenever I think back to my childhood, everything seems fairly joyful and innocent. And then, one day, my mother told me that I once got locked in a bathroom with a bucket full of water as a kid. That was scary, but thankfully, nothing happened.

I remember Lawn darts, but don’t remember any injuries from them.

As a young man , we used to launch bottle rockets on the pavement behind cars going down the street. No real problems resulted, but that sure wasn’t our fault; just pure luck.

Fresh snow and bumper skiing. Crouch down and hang on to that back bumper and off you go. Tin soup cans, tennis ball cannon.

In my early teens, a friend and I broke into an old shack, and found some small cylindrical items sealed on one end.

They kind of look like spent .22 shells.

After knocking a box of them on the floor, we picked some up and started blowing into them to create a whistle effect.

Only later, when we brought some home, did my friends grandpa inform us they were blasting caps.

We had a bottle rocket war once - held bottle rockets and launched them at each other. I was fat and slow and got hit a few times, fortunately on the torso. We also used to light cherry bombs, drop them in a length of pipe, jam a crabapple or a green apple on the end, aim and shoot. Stupid stuff, but we all survived it. I grew up in Pennsylvania where fireworks were illegal, so the cops started hovering after a few explosions.

Yes, it sometimes feels that youth were in fact wasted on the young🙂

I am still utterly grateful to the Father in Heaven that I had such a harmonious relationship with my parents, who were both loving and erudite, as well as relatively prosperous (by German standards).

It was people my age with whom I had trouble. Tragically, nobody, not even I, knew that I am a high-functioning autistic. I wasn’t diagnosed until 2008, when I was pushing 40…

Still, I feel so richly blessed in other regards, that I really feel happy.

To: Alas Babylon!

I took it the way you intended it. No harm.

Back in the mid 1970’s we would send in those postcards saying we were interested in joining, putting friends name and addresses in as a joke. Same with army recruiting material.

In the Bible, John 9:1, they asked Jesus who sinned, the blind man or his father when the man was blind from birth. While the answer was neither, it raises the issue of sin before birth.

A buddy of mine and I jumped off my parents roof with open umbrellas expecting the result you would see in the cartoons.

I didn't use an umbrella. I just jumped.

My friends and I used to shoot Cherry Bombs from our Whammo Wrist Rocket Slingshots.

My neighbor had two things: a Wrist Rocket, and a machinist father who brought home faulty bearings--ones that had holes or grooves in the sides of them.

Those bearings never did fly straight, and several of us made trips to ERs because of that.

We had rocket fights with bottle rockets, roman candles, and 5oz rockets. We were completely safe, we wore motorcycle helmets.

Oh yeah, I know the exact type of ball bearing you're talking about.

I believe they're called ''roller bearings'' and they aren't wrist rocket ammo at all. Round ball bearings, marbles, or Cherry Bombs are better. A buddy of mine's father owned a junkyard and that's where I learned about them. You know what those little suckers can do? You don't need a slingshot for this: Find an old junk car that still has a side window. Lightly toss the bearing against the window, lightly, just a slight toss and the window evaporates. So does the rear windshield. Throw one at the front windshield and only that BB hole type mark shows up but side and rear windows just disappear. Yeah. You can do a lot of damage with those little suckers.

LOL! Definitely not.

However, being in elementary school, anything that could fit in the sling was ammo. My friend hit his brother on the forehead with one of those bearings. My mom, being a retired nurse, took care of him, and fixed him up. It's amazing I lived through my childhood.
