Even before the rise of political correctness and DEI, Hollywood played fast and loose with the ethnic identities of actors for particular roles. Not all Vikings were blond and tall (although Kirk Douglas was light haired) and not all Mongols were East Asian. Casting an African actress as Helen of Troy, though motivated by leftist ideology, is not much different than casting Ernest Borgnine as a Viking or John Wayne as a Mongol.
