I’ve found that the slight “tick” of a ball detent holding the hammer back on a pistol sends a black bear on a sprint the hell away from me pretty quick...

Neat experiment checking for the effect of the “tick’ sound. In my own case that tick will be the last thing Mr. Bear ever hears. The speed of sound being what it is he/she will never hear the report. I usually nail something over a hunnert varmits per year and putting up with a busy body bear wouldn’t be in my wheel house.
