I want to comment, but where can I actually read what this SEC rule says.
In general, I want, free of charge, mailed documents if I choose that route. Putting anything in email is akin to putting it into one of those coupon mailers, buried among all the useless coupons that we get from time to time. The “value-pack” kind of stuff. Because 90% of my email is junk mail and anything sent by email is prone to be ignored or trashed without even reading.
I don’t mind paying bills electronically, and in fact I do that most of the time. But a paper bill is still preferred so that it doesn’t go unnoticed, and so that there’s a document that shows the details of the charge or event.

I would really like to know how much the senders of the junk mail, whether it is commercial, charity related or political, actually pay for what they fill our mailboxes with. I hate all of it. Somehow, we cannot learn an actual accounting of this. I have a suspicion that there’s a very strong lobby that provides quite a few campaign donations, or free trips to the Super Bowl, etc.,to keep this junk mail flowing.
If the USPS were required to provide only the mail that people want, three times a week delivery would be plenty.
People might have to walk up to one block to have a cluster of mailboxes instead of delivery at every single door. I used to live in a place where some people lived 10 to 20 steps up a hill. There were bushes planted on the hillside so the mail deliverers had to go up the steps and down the steps and repeat that for blocks. That is ridiculous.

Anyway, I commented that I am 100% against e-documents without express consent of the recipient, and I extended that to include bills (which are not under the SEC umbrella, but maybe they’ll talk to those regulators in the hallway some time). I have one credit card that charges me $1.50 a month to get my bills in the US mail instead of electronically. So basically, I pay a fee so that I can receive secure documents on paper instead of by email which has proven to be prone to scammers and mucho junk mail.
