we shouldn't try to overthrow governments throughout the world.

If the government is a legitimate threat then I don't agree. Overthrowing the Nazis, for example was fully justified. Overthrowing a democratically elected government in 1953 because they won't do our bidding? No.

There's a gray area in between, as to what constitutes a threat to us and who decides if they are a threat. I think we're seeing that in this debate.

I've heard that claim for several years now. Last week there was a Freeper posting quite explicit details about what actually happened. I don't recall his name, but I could probably find him in my posting history if I looked.

But the point is, he says Mosaddegh was attempting to overthrow the government, and we helped stop him. The Shah was the legitimate ruler of Iran, and Mosaddegh was attempting extra legal means to gain power.

So I think people have been spinning the truth and spreading the incorrect version of events.
