Pres. Donald Trump very consistently labeled Iran a threat during his first administration. He described it as the “dominant Islamic power in the Middle East and on the road to nuclear weapons” and asserted it posed a risk of “nuclear holocaust.” His administration implemented a “maximum pressure” campaign (ie., economic warfare) involving over 1,500(!) sanctions, increased cooperation with regional allies, and withdrew from the JCPOA to counter Iran.
Additionally (you have to be dishonest to “forget” this one), Trump authorized multiple military strikes against Iranian-backed proxy groups during his first administration, marking a significant escalation from previous U.S. policy.
Again, Trump never said during his first term that the United States is at war with Iraq. Only one munition was fired on Iran by the United States during Trump’s first term. That is not prosecuting a war by any measure. Attacking Iran’s proxies is not a war against Iran. Example, China, Russia, and the United States have engaged in a number proxy wars against each other with actually engaging in direct attacks against the aforesaid countries.
