Von Braun was arrested by the Gestapo pending execution because he was overheard muttering, “We are launching rockets at the wrong target. We should be launching to the moon”. The SS was powerless to get him back, so they notified Hitler. Hitler ordered Von Baun back to his post and subsequently told the SS and Gestapo that they were not allowed to arrest scientists for political views or comments.
