When I was a kid our school had an asphalt school yard. If you fell off the jungle gym you paid dearly. Then got it from your mom when you came home with torn new corduroy pants.
Now playgrounds are low impact, high cushion. Easy on the clothes children wear for a year but rough on their $50K cars when they get older not appreciating their limitations or paying for their transgressions.
The army and marines are really troubled with modern recruits not understanding their bodies and not knowing their capabilities and how to use them.
Kids now have childhoods resembling working in an office with the entire learning about and stretching and pushing the body at all stages of age development and maturity and pre/post puberty, and in competition against other males and trees, the ground, and the physical world, and pain and injuries in all those stages, the entire life experience is missing, yet here they are at basic and you can only do so much with them, and they are also missing all the emotional and mental growth that comes from those countless struggles, with their bodies, pain, and victories.
