Sorry if I misspoke on Cosco. I guess my experience was not typical. Mostly Sams. But did visit a Costco once a while ago, and that’s my memory. Also had a one year membership to BJ’s in Florida and it was mostly big packages and multi-packs.
I don’t have the room for an extra fridge nor a freezer, but I’m guessing what you pay to operate them offsets your savings in gas for buying... (large sizes or multiple packages of food)? Unless you live 40 or 50 miles away.

That is definitely a consideration. Years ago we used a small chest freezer.

We live about 20 miles from each of three Costo stores.
We go about twice a month and gas up there. Just the savings on gas pays for the trip there.
Usually we select which of the three stores we go to based on other shopping needs so it is not like a totally separate trip.
It is not just the price savings, it is also the quality.
Then there is the generous return policy and extended warranties that have saved us hundreds of dollars.
We had a four year old TV that went out with a free extended warranty for five years. Called Costco and they gave us a number to call for service. Dude listened to the problem, asked for a photo of the screen and serial number and we got a full refund of the purchase price. Took the money and bought a new, better TV at Costco.
My wife bought an electric bike from them on-line. The batter locking mechanism broke. Still usable, just wouldn’t lock. They sent us a new battery and we kept the old one. Over $400 retail. After a while returned it with no questions asked. I kept mine so now I have an extra battery.
