State Department issues rare warning for all Americans traveling abroad

The State Department has issued a rare warning to all Americans traveling or living abroad, saying they could be targeted due to “heightened tensions” over the war with Iran.

The warning, issued Saturday, urges Americans overseas to exercise increased caution and follow local security guidance, adding that U.S. diplomatic posts have been targeted both within and outside the Mideast.

“Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation,” the State Department said. “Groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or locations associated with the United States and/or Americans throughout the world.”

The agency also warned that travel could be disrupted because of airspace closures and flight cancellations.

Rare warning? I thought that was just common sense.

Summer of 2001 was the last major security alert for Americans traveling.
My hotel in Bali had special rooms for Americans away from the front entrance.
2.5 months later....911
4 months later a terrorist attack in Bali.

The State Department needs to issue the same order for Americans here at home who have been forced to live among people who hate us, whose entry into the U.S. was aided abetted by the State Department.

I wanted to study abroad, but my daughter thought that was creepy.

Anyway, the world is now full of aloha snackbar sleeper cells, and the alarm clock is ringing. There are some places I would feel more secure than others (Japan’s rural countryside comes to mind), but I’m not planning to leave TX for a while, and in any case there are enough of many belligerent ethnicities that I practice situational awareness.

Some countries allow for citizenship if a parent or grandparent was born there.
Ireland is one of those countries.

An Irish-American friend of mine did just that. “Why bother?”, I asked him.
“Sometimes it safer to carry an Irish passport,” he replied.

What’s the over/under on the next Darwin Award recipient flying over to Iran to stand with them in solidarity against America.

Sometimes it’s an idiot who flies to a hostile country.

And sometimes it’s an idiot who is hiking through a hostile country.
One world, one people. We’re all the same, dontcha know?

Well, it would be Jamey. She stood too close to the fire and was burned.

I just got back from a drive to Toronto, Canada. It only happened once but a white woman passed me on the right and held her middle finger as far out as she could from her drivers side window. She must have "saluted" me for 1/4 mile. I felt touched. It may of had something to do with the character of my Kia:

Is there a warning from State about traveling inside the Zone of the Interior, aka the United States?

If not, there oughta be.

I’m done with foreign travel. I’ve been to about 45 countries all over the world and have no desire to do any more traveling other than in the US.

sounds terrif. Business or pleasure?

. I loved to see new plaecs and decades ago, I was a travel writer for Pan am inflight magazines. flew for about four years to destinations in europe and Asia. free first class all the way and they paid me for photos they used. they went out of business when their plane crashed over Lockerbie, Scotland. glad I wasn’t one that flight. Only regret is missing beautiful saint Petersburg, Russia,.

I’ve been all over the US too, so I’m happily grounded.
